There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where casino gaming is banned. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent spot, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; still, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel building that contains numerous luxuries aside from the gambling den, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
